Knowledge is power. Starting in July the CWA will be presenting a series of on-going live technology presentations of interest to Canadian welders and welding companies. Launched as TechTalk, this initiative is thefirst of several new programs geared towards helping CWA members acquire the knowledge they need to stay current and remain competitive in the marketplace. Through TechTalk, participants will be introduced to advances in welding technology through formal presentations followed by an opportunity to talk to manufacturers and see the processes and equipment in person. Where possible, the technology being discussed will be shown in action, with the opportunity for hands on where appropriate.
Run as individual half-day sessions at our Milton Training Facility/ Advanced Welding Technology Centre (AWTC), the TechTalk sessions cover a range of core technology topics tied to a 3-month rotating presentation schedule. This allows participants to pick and choose the sessions that best suit their interests and availability. Price per TechTalk session is $160 for CWA members ($200 for non-member). Call 1-800-844-6790 now to register for any of the upcoming sessions. Due to the format of these sessions seating is very limited, so please book early.

As Alberta's manufacturing sector is heating up, the time is now for industry professionals to address production challenges and learn best practices in order make their businesses thrive and be more competitive.
"This is the event is for manufacturers to grow their business and showcase the latest in technology development," says Janine Saperson, Event Manager." For attendees, WMTS provides opportunities to learn, evaluate and compare technologies and solutions on a one-on-one basis; all under one roof, over three days." More than 2,000 attendees are expected to attend this highly anticipated biennial event.
Highlights of Alberta's manufacturing sector:
• Alberta has $15 billion per year of existing metal manufacturing, third only to Ontario and
Quebec
• Alberta will require more than $200 billion in new construction and maintenance spending over the next 25 years, much of it in fabricated metal products
• Canadian Energy Research Institute estimates that the oil sands will require 450,000+ annual
work positions, totaling more than 11.4 million person-years of employment, over the next 25 years
In addition to nearly 100 exhibitors, WMTS features an industry keynote, an interactive town hall panel discussion and limitless opportunities to network and share ideas with like-minded colleagues. To learn more about WMTS, go to www.wmts.ca or call 888-322-7333.
The AMFI program is dedicated to providing welding and metal fabrication companies with the knowledge necessary to become more globally competitive, and to tap in to domestic demand. It targets small to medium sized enterprises, and gives the hands-on experience necessary to learn about innovations in welding technology, and business developments in the oil sands supply chain.
