The bylaws of the Canadian Welding Association under Section 8 – Membership List and Records – state:

The records of the Association, including the complete membership list, shall be considered confidential and shall not be made available except with authorization of the Board of Directors. The Chapters’ chairpersons shall be provided with their respective current membership rolls.

On September 27, 2004, CWA’s Board of Directors adopted the following Personal Information Protection policy to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It is as follows:

  • All association activities related to the use of the information that the Association maintains, shall be governed by Section 8 – Membership List and Records – of the bylaws.
  • Membership information shall be used only for the Association’s normal business:
    • Maintenance of address information in order to communicate information about the Association’s news or events, or welding-industry-related events;
    • Membership information may, at the Association’s option, be shared with other bodies within the CWA such as chapters and committees. Such bodies shall be informed of their responsibilities with respect to the information;
    • Communications related to solicitation, renewal or maintenance of membership;
    • Provision to members of industry publications whether those publications are published by CWA or not.
  • By joining the Canadian Welding Association, members consent to having their information used in the above-mentioned manner.
  • Members have the right to be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of their personal information and shall be given access to it upon demand.
  • The information shall be maintained in such a fashion that it will be secure from loss or access by unauthorized parties.
  • Under the supervision of the chair of the membership committee (to be determined), the executive director of the Canadian Welding Association shall be responsible for the maintenance and use of membership information.
