EASTERN BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Canadian Welding Association will hold its Board of Directors meeting, Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on September 30 and October 1, 2005. The agenda for the AGM is:

    Noon – Lunch and speaker session hosted by Halifax and Nova Scotia chapters – visit www.cwa-acs.org. Speakers and topics will include Dave Fink (implementing robotics), Mick Pates (state-of-the-art repair) and Chris Rees (Technology Roadmap)

CANADIAN WELDING INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP

In September, the Canadian Welding Industry Technology Roadmap project will hold regional forums to get input from welding professionals across Canada. Each forum will address key questions for the sector, communications with government, next steps in the process, and desired outcomes. Each will begin at 8:00 am and end at 5:00 pm. The forums on specific sectors will be held as follows:

  • AEROSPACE – Montreal, September 20: Main Conference Room, Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Centre, University of Montreal Campus, Montreal, QC
     
  • DURABLE GOODS, AUTOMOTIVE, ELECTRONICS & MEDICAL – Kitchener, September 23: Room W9, Doon Campus, Conestoga College, Kitchener, ON
     
  • PETROCHEMICAL & ENERGY, RESOURCES – Edmonton, September 26: 6th Floor Conference Room, ETLC Building, University of Alberta Campus, Edmonton, AB
     
  • STRUCTURAL FABRICATION & TRANSPORTATION – Halifax, September 29: Alderney & Sullivan Rooms, 101 Wyse Rd., Holiday Inn Harbourfront, Dartmouth, NS

CANADIAN MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY SHOW

The Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show will be held at the National Trade Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto from October 17 to 20, 2005. Visit www.cmts.ca for details.

NORTHERN COLLEGE

Northern College’s School of Welding Engineering Technology has recently been awarded the 2005 Yves Landry Foundation’s Outstanding Innovation in Education Award. The Patron for this Award is Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association. The press release can be seen on CWA’s website.

EILEEN SAXBY

Eileen Saxby, George Saxby’s wife, passed away on August 5, 2005. She will be remembered in the Canadian welding community by her attendance with George at all CWA national events. Members of CWA extend their condolences to the Saxby family. CWA has made a donation in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
