WELDING-EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN CANADA

CWA has posted a listing of welding-education institutions in Canada. The purpose of the listing is to inform the welding community about what’s available in education resources across the country. It is also intended to assist prospective welding professionals in finding the type of education they want.

Would you review it and let us know about any institutions we have missed or information that needs updating?

NORTHERN COLLEGE

Northern College has secured funding from the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario and industry to develop a business plan for an applied innovation and development facility to be affiliated with the College’s School of Welding Engineering Technology, based in Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario.

As a first step in the project, the College understands the necessity of getting an up-to-date picture of the welding industry in Canada, the major issues it is facing and the key drivers for the future. The College approached the Canadian Welding Association to play a lead role in helping to develop a vision for the industry and, subsequently, to share that vision with all involved in the industry.

Christopher Rees, Managing Partner of Suthey Holler Associates, is conducting a Welding Industry Visioning Questionnaire and Forum on behalf of Northern College.

You would greatly assist in this effort by completing the online questionnaire, and indicating whether or not you will attend the forum. The questionnaire is accompanied by a document – A Scan of the Welding Industry and Emerging Key Issues – that will be the initial basis for discussion at the forum.

The Forum will be held in Whitby, Ontario, on Friday, December 12, 2003, and is sponsored by Northern College and the Canadian Welding Association. As participation is designed for only about 30 people, we would appreciate you letting us know by November 19 at the latest whether you would like to participate.

CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

The November issue of the Canadian Welding Association Journal was mailed to you in late October. It can also be seen on our website. French translations of most of the articles are also available on the website.

The February 2004 issue is being put together now, and we are looking for articles for the May 2004 issue, which will focus on robotics in welding.
