SKILLS CANADA COMPETITION

The Skills Canada Competition was held at RIM Park in Kitchener, Ontario, at the end of May. Five-hundred-twenty-five secondary and post-secondary level contestants from all across Canada participated in 42 different skills competitions ranging from Autobody Repair to Welding. Sixteen competed in welding. The winners in the welding competition were:

Secondary:

  • First: Kyle Hinteregger, British Columbia
  • Second: Joey Swain, Manitoba
  • Third: Ryan Leaman, Alberta
Post-secondary:
  • First: Brad Hollman, Alberta
  • Second: Travis Thibault, British Columbia
  • Third: Luc Mazerolle, New Brunswick
The winners of the 2002 Skills Canada welding competition are currently competing in Switzerland in the World Skills Competition. They are accompanied by John Kroisenbrunner.

The Skills Canada Competition promotes the value of trades and technologies as career options for young Canadians.

CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

The inaugural issue of the Canadian Welding Association Journal has been published and mailed. If you have not received your copy, you should shortly. We have received great comments on its content and look.

CWA’s Board of Directors appointed Bruce Clark, Grant Harvey, Bruce James and Mick Pates as members of the Journal’s Editorial Review Committee to oversee its content.

It’s now time to move on to the next issue scheduled for publication in November 2003. We are looking for content for the next issue which will look at welding in Alberta – focusing on the practice of welding in the petroleum industry and the tar sands projects.

The Journal may also be a great way for an independent welding contractor to advertise services using a business-card ad.
