CWA OTTAWA MEETINGS
CWAs Annual General Meeting will be held in Ottawa on Monday, October 6, 2003. As has been the tradition, the day will include a Board of Directors meeting, the AGM and CWAs Annual Awards Dinner. Formal notice of these meetings will be mailed in late August.
CWA AWARDS
At the Annual Awards Dinner, the CWA presents several awards at both the national and chapter levels. CWAs national awards, the Robert J. Jacobson Memorial Award and the Michael N. Vuchnich Award will be presented at the dinner. The criteria for the awards are as follows:
- The Robert J. Jacobson Memorial Award honours an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to CWA Chapter operations.
- The Michael N. Vuchnich Award is presented to an individual who has done the most to advance the science, technology and application of arc welding in Canada in their career.
Complete information and a nomination form for each award are posted on our website at www.cwa-acs.org. The deadline for submitting nominations is September 1, 2003.
Individual chapters are encouraged to use this event to present or announce their chapter scholarships and awards.
CHAPTER CHAIR MEETING
On July 24, the Chapter Chairs and representatives met on a conference call. The objective of the meeting was to discuss those issues that affect the Chapters directly. Some of the items on the agenda included the increased use of CWAs website for communicating with members, the Associations finances, joint purchasing of incentive items, and the arrangements for the Ottawa Board of Directors and Annual General Meetings, and Annual Awards Dinner.
Of prime concern to the Chapter Chairs was expanding the membership in CWA. Any suggestions for an incentive program for individual and corporate memberships should be sent to CWAs national office at admin@cwa-acs.org.
WSIB SAFETY GROUPS PROGRAM
The Association is currently recruiting corporate members to participate in the Workplace Safety & Insurance Boards Safety Groups Program in Ontario. The program is being put together to help manufacturers and fabricators improve their health and safety programs and benefit from rebates on their workers' compensation premiums.
CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL
The next issue of the Canadian Welding Association Journal is being put together now. The theme will be welding in Albertas oilfields and oil sands. This issue will be mailed to members in November 2003. As was the case for the first issue, this issue will contain articles on the theme and technical papers.
The Journal will be published four times a year, beginning with the November 2003 issue. Should you decide to submit an article or wish to learn about the editorial schedule, a guidelines-for-authors file is posted to the website on the Journal page.
If you would like to advertise in the upcoming issue(s), please contact CWAs national office.
