CWB GROUP APPROVES MERGER WITH THE CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION
CWA received the following statement from Doug Luciani, President and CEO of CWB Group:
The CWB Group Board met on June 1, 2007, in Calgary to discuss the merger between the CWA and CWB Group. The CWB Group Board was very positive on this issue and, as the next step forward, the Board decided to charge a Board sub-committee to look into the structure and governance with respect to the CWB Group. The sub-committee will be comprised of three CWB Board members, Doug Luciani and Ed Whalen who will investigate this opportunity over the summer months.
We will keep you informed of the progress.
NORTHERN COLLEGE KIRKLAND LAKE CAMPUS RECEIVES FIRST NORTH AMERICAN TRAINING BODY CERTIFICATION
KIRKLAND LAKE The International Institute of Welding (IIW) through its Authorized National Body in Canada the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) has certified Northern College, Kirkland Lake Campus, as an IIW Approved Training Body making it the first and only accredited institution in North America.

WESTERN MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY SHOW
The Western Manufacturing Technology Show was held in Edmonton from June 19 to 21. Our supplier members report varying degrees of success at the show a reasonable number of leads given the investment a numerically small market place high-quality leads traffic OK.

APPRENTICESHIPS
CWA has had several inquiries from prospective apprentices looking placement. If you are interested in hiring an apprentice, contact your local community college, high school or board of education. There are lots of students taking welding courses and looking for appropriate apprenticeships.
MIKE CHERRY MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Mike Cherry Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Granite Ridge Golf Club in Milton on August 28. It supports a scholarship in engineering at the University of Waterloo. Contact CWA for more information.
