The voice of the welding industry in Canada
January, 2007
HAPPY NEW YEAR
The Canadian Welding Associations executives, directors and staff wish you, your family and fellow welding professionals a happy and prosperous new year.
CWA AND THE CANADIAN WELDING BUREAU
The CWAs board of directors has been discussing various strategies for the future of the association. One of the options is to form a closer relationship with the Canadian Welding Bureau, as either some form of informal partnership or a merger.
The purpose of such a relationship would be to merge two of the important entities in the Canadian welding community, as well as to ensure the CWAs ongoing viability.
Several options were discussed at CWAs board of directors and annual general meetings that were held in September 2006. The board of directors has formed a committee to develop a plan for the process and make a recommendation to the board at its spring 2007 meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for May 5, 2007, in Edmonton.
If you have any suggestions or comments on this matter, please submit the information to CWAs national office and we will forward it to the committee.
MOHAWK COLLEGE
In December, Mohawk College announced a 36-week full-time tuition-free pre-apprenticeship program in welding. The program is offered at the Brantford campus and will begin in March 2007. The program features targeted academics, hands-on welding training, welding theory and science, employability skills and an 8-week paid job placement. Students who successfully complete the program will be granted credit for Level 1 of the MTCU (Ontarios Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) Welding Apprenticeship Program.
Some details and a link to the information flyer can be seen in the Mohawk College section on the Welding Education Institutions in Canada webpage.
A great program and a great opportunity!!!
