CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

The editorial committee of CWA’s new magazine, titled Canadian Welding Association Journal, is looking for articles. As mentioned in the January issue of CWA News, articles on major Canadian welding projects, technical issues, and CWA chapter information will be included.

Members are encouraged to submit information for sourcing articles to journal@cwa-acs.org.

The advertising campaign is under way. This may be a unique opportunity to communicate your company’s message to the Canadian welding community. Ads vary from black-and-white business-card size to four-colour full pages and will fit budgets of individual practitioners to large corporations.

RESUMES AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES ON THE WEBSITE

The CWA website has areas for posting job opportunities and members’ résumés. Experience has shown that these areas can be very useful to those looking for employment or employees. It includes three sections:

  • The résumés of members looking for new employment. These can be posted in a fashion that does not identify the member.

  • Résumés of students in recognized welding programs across Canada. Instructors are requested to gather their students’ résumés into one file and send them to CWA for posting.

  • Job opportunities from employers.

Instructions for posting résumés and job opportunities are on the How To page.

WESTERN BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

CWA’s Western Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, 2003, in Winnipeg. The agenda for the meeting will be available shortly.

SKILLS CANADA COMPETITION

The Skills Canada Competition will be held this year at Rim Park in Kitchener, Ontario, from May 29 to June 1.

CWA members will be involved in the judging and other phases of the competition.

IIW ANNUAL ASSEMBLY

The 56th Annual Assembly of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) is to be held in Bucharest, Romania, from July 6 to 11, 2003. For more information, or to be added to the mailing list for the full schedule and registration form for the Assembly, please contact Hilary Barton at the Canadian Council of the IIW (hilary.barton@cwbgroup.com).

CCIIW BURSARY 2003

The CCIIW is offering a bursary to attend the 56th Annual Assembly in Bucharest, Romania, in July. It covers the cost of the full early registration fee for the Annual Assembly. Last year, Michael Harmon from Alcan Primary Metal in Kitimat, BC, was awarded the CCIIW bursary for the 2002 IIW Annual Assembly in Copenhagen, Denmark.

WELD EXPO CANADA

Two weeks ago, CWA emailed a survey to attendees of Weld Expo Canada, Canadian Fabricating & Stamping Show and Finishing Expo Canada in October 2002. We had 500 responses to the 5,500 emails sent. The results of the survey should be ready shortly.

As an inducement to complete the survey, 10 gift certificates to Home Depot were offered as prizes. The winners will be announced on the website early next week and notified by email.

Many of the respondents requested information on joining CWA.
