HOLIDAY GREETINGS

Emad Assaad, president of the Canadian Welding Association, extends best wishes on behalf of CWA’s executive, directors and staff to all for a happy holiday, a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

CWA — CWB GROUP AFFILIATION NEWS

At the end on November, the CWB Group provided a very generous subsidy to CWA’s cash-flow. It demonstrated CWB’s commitment to the affiliation process. The money will go a long way to ensuring that the CWA remains financially viable. It is much appreciated.

CWA’s executive committee has been conferring with the CWB Group about the agreement that will affiliate chapters with CWA National.

The intent of the agreement is to define the relationship between CWA National and CWA chapters after CWA becomes a part of the CWB Group.

Good progress is being made on the agreement and on developing an update to the National Chapter Handbook. The Handbook will become an integral part of the agreement.

CHAPTER ACTIVITIES

Check out your chapter’s activities on CWA website. Chapters have worked hard to provide worthwhile information and networking sessions this winter. Don’t miss them!

NEW MEMBERS

In the last month, the Calgary chapter has enrolled 22 new student members and the Halifax chapter has brought in eight.

Keep up the great work! Student members are CWA’s future.

CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

The winter 2008 issue of the Canadian Welding Association Journal has closed. It’s gone to our publisher to prepare for printing. You will see your copy in early February.

We are now gathering ideas and articles for the spring 2008 issue. Its theme is “Welding Exotic Metals.” If you are welding metals other than steel and aluminum, you may have a story members would like to hear. Let us know your ideas soon.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

On January 1, 2008, the GST will be reduced from 6% to 5%. The individual membership fee ($70 including GST) and the chapter sustaining fees ($189 including GST) will not change. Student- and retired-membership fees will change from $10.60 to $10.50 including GST.

CWA JOB OPPORTUNITIES
