BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

CWA's Board of Directors met on July 31. Complete minutes are on the website.

  • The Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner are scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2002.
     
  • The amended Constitution and Bylaws have been accepted (with one minor change required) and will be presented to the membership at the Annual General Meeting.
     
  • Bruce James, First Vice-President of CWA, will lead the Nomination Committee. The Nomination Committee will set the slate for the new Executive Committee.
     
  • Nominations for CWA's achievement awards will be requested from Chapter chairs.
     
  • The Board set a new fee structure for membership in CWA. It provides graduated fees for fabricators.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORSHIP OF CWA

David Long, Executive Director of the Canadian Welding Association, will be leaving CWA on September 30, 2002, to take on new career opportunities. David was the Executive Director of WPMAC and was one of the principals responsible for the merger of the Canadian Welding Society and the Welding Products Manufacturers Association of Canada into the Canadian Welding Association.

To ensure continuity for the Canadian Welding Association, John Levi, Program Manager for CWA, will assume the role of Executive Director under the direction of CWA's Board of Directors.

NATIONAL POST SUPPLEMENT

The National Post has $38,000 in advertising commitments for the Welding supplement scheduled for distribution on October 1, 2002. It is still looking for welding-related companies interested in advertising to a national audience. It will solicit CWA members for content that will interest the welding community.

GOLF

The Mike Cherry Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for August 28 at Cardinal Golf Club and will be hosted by the Toronto Chapter. This tournament supports a scholarship fund for students with a welding specialization in engineering at the University of Waterloo. There are still openings. Contact the Toronto Chapter to register.
