CWA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MAY 5, 2007
The Canadian Welding Associations board of directors will meet in Edmonton on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
Its time to let your chapter chair or other directors know what you think of the association, its programs and its operations. If we dont hear from you, we cant meet your needs.
The prime topic on the boards agenda will be the future of the Canadian Welding Association. The major issues are keeping CWA relevant in the Canadian welding community, deliverables and the financial position of the association. Several options to ensure the ongoing health of CWA include:
- A closer relationship with the Canadian Welding Bureau, including, but not limited to, a merger with the CWB through which the CWA would become a division of the CWB
- A series of seminars sponsored by CWAs national body
- Other magazine-publishing initiatives
Supplier members met on March 28 to discuss a future relationship for CWA with the CWB, as well as the Western Manufacturing Technology Show and the seminar program. Some members felt there may be a conflict of interest in being too closely associated with the body that certifies their products. This is a determination that each supplier member must make for itself. The supplier committee will present its recommendations at the board meeting.
CWA MEMBERSHIP SURVEY
We included a questionnaire for members in the polybag with the winter 2007 issue of the Canadian Welding Association Journal. We asked you to consider what aspects of CWA were important to you and how well the association performed. We also asked how we could improve.
You can see the results of the survey at www.cwa-acs.org/results.pdf.
The results are very informative and will provide some guidance to the board of directors. But we do need your input, your participation in chapter activities and perhaps even an article, theme or suggested author for the Canadian Welding Association Journal.
CANADIAN WELDING ASSOCIATION JOURNAL
We are putting the final touches on the spring issue of the Journal. The theme of the issue is pressure vessels. You should see your copy in late May.
The theme for the summer issue is automation. If you have an idea for its content or an article, let us know now.
